Picture this: two college kids—Steve and Becky Barry—dancing under neon lights just outside Texas A&M. Their adventure starts there, unfolding through decades of road trips, big moves, and even bigger dreams. First stop: the Outer Banks, where a rickety pier in Kill Devil Hills sets the stage for Steve’s proposal. Then it’s off to Florida, where Becky dives into nutrition and Steve becomes a wizard in wastewater treatment. Their first son, Ethan, is born in Tampa, and soon after, a move to Alabama brings their second son, Eric.

Through it all, beer hums in the background—woven into backyard hangs, college nights, and poolside afternoons. Becky’s love for beer began early, with fond memories of her dad tapping a keg after a hot day of yard work. Steve’s interest was rooted in the science—if he could reclaim wastewater, brewing beer seemed a natural step. Eric followed suit, turning a love for math and chemistry into a Chemistry major and Fermentation Science minor at Appalachian State, determined to brew beer that makes people take notice.

In 2003, the Barrys settle in Wilson, North Carolina. They roll up their sleeves, start businesses, coach, teach, and invest in the community they quickly grow to love. Between it all, they find time for a shared passion—visiting breweries across the Carolinas and beyond.

Meanwhile, in 2020, Casita Brewing Company is born. Founded by Ryan and Mahalia Witter-Merithew, Casita brought a fresh, creative energy to downtown Wilson—combining a love of art, community, and boundary-pushing beer. Their vision helped establish Casita as a vibrant, welcoming place with serious brewing chops and a playful spirit.

That’s exactly what drew the Barrys in. Casita quickly became a favorite neighborhood spot—one that felt like home. Then serendipity struck: Mahalia announced Casita was for sale. Though they didn’t found it, the Barrys jumped at the chance to preserve something special—for Wilson and for themselves. They bought Casita and stepped into the role of stewards for a beloved local institution. With Becky’s beer enthusiasm, Steve’s technical chops, and Eric’s passion for brewing, they bring new energy to every pint.
